Community Reflection

Leadership Is... CLP 2024
Creating a concise definition of what leadership is, while encapsulating everything I have learned about leadership was tough for me. I had to make sacrifices and leave out aspects that although I value, didn’t fit within my one sentence definition. When first brainstorming my definition, I struggled to find the right phrase and vocabulary to get the right message through. When we went through everybody in class, I suddenly thought of words and concepts that I wish I had included in mine.
This assignment really encapsulates how fantastic the cohort that I got to experience CLP with was. Each definition is rich in individual experiences and built upon a shared sense of learning and community. Going around the room trying to guess who’s each definition was, it was clear to see how much each definition represented their writer. Each definition has such an individual spin to leadership and yet not even one incorrectly described what leadership is. There is no one definition of leadership and the definitions created by this cohort represent that in its fullest.
Community Buissness Leadership Assessment
Looking back on my experience talking to and reflecting on my time with Kevin Parker, it was awesome to see how much of his ideas related to my leadership definition at the time and even the one I submitted this for our leadership is statements. He shared ideas on awareness that I connected with as freshman. As a senior, I understand it’s significance even more now and find his wisdom even more valuable. Being able to see relational leadership performed at such a high level and have such profound success was something that I haven’t seen since.
In our time with him, he said “Everyone that you lead will ask two questions. Where are we going? And do you care about me? If you can’t answer both, then the other ones don’t matter.” At the time I thought that I would get prompted with these questions very literally, but I’ve begun to understand that these questions take on so many different forms and vocabulary. Sometimes they aren’t even asked directly to you. But being exposed to this concept early on in my time in CLP has helped me practice better leadership and create better environments where I lead.
Leadership Interview Paper
I am very happy to have been able to have the opportunity to interview Collin for this project. I have now had the opportunity to work with Collin for 3 months now and I’ve been able to see Collin act out some of these leadership ideas. I have been able to see his people first approach to leadership and seen all the praise he’s placed on the Spokane Chiefs be true. Collin had some insightful ideas and approaches to leadership and change. The more the we discussed, the more I realized how similar we are in the way that we approach change and leadership.
Interviewing Collin was a refreshing opportunity to see how CLP would translate into my post-graduate life. With Collin being a CLP alum, we were able to engage in more deep conversations about adaptive leadership, how CLP has changed who we and our journeys practicing leadership. Through my initial conversation with Collin and the one’s that have followed, he’s been influential in helping me grow this past semester as a leader and person!
